Cleveland gains home ice advantage with weekend split

(Parma, OH)- The Cleveland Jr. Barons of the North American Hockey League gained a weekend split the USA National Development Program. The Barons have now gained home ice advantage in the best of 7 North Division Finals. The winner of the series will advance to the NAHL Robertson Cup Championship hosted by the Mahoning Valley Phantoms in Boardman, OH.

WEEKEND RECAP

USA-17 3- Cleveland 2 OT

Friday April 14th- The Barons jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Tomas Petruska (Presov, Slovakia) assisted by Pat Goebel (Parma, OH) and Jeremy Tejchma (Muskegon, MI) and Derek Roehl (Clinton Twp.,MI) from Trent Bonnett (Butler, PA) and Eric rex (Fairview, PA). The USA-17 squad would answer back with a goal by defensemen Joe Lavin and Kevin Shattenkirk to tie the game at the end of regulation. In overtime, defenseman Colby Cohen scored at the 2:59 mark to give the USA the win. Barons goalie Kenny Reiter (Pittsburgh, PA) made 40 saves in the game.

Saturday April 15th- The USA would jump out to a 1-0 lead on a shorthanded goal by Mike Cieslak after the first period. In the second period, Barons forward Jeremy Tejchma would notch 2 goals to give the Barons the 2-1 lead Carter Camper (Rocky River, OH) 2 assists , John Kennedy (Saginaw, MI) and Tomas Petruska had an assist in the game .. The score would hold after solid goaltending from the Barons Bobby Jarosz ( Crystal Lake, IL) who made 28 saves in the victory.

Barons Head Coach had this to say on the past weekend:" We are playing the first place team in NAHL North division, we must give an effort to match their intensity on the ice if we are to have any chance to succeed."

The Barons now return home to the Lakefront Lines Arena, in Parma, OH, where they will play the next three games; Friday April21st , Saturday April 22nd at 7:30PM and Sunday at 3:30PM.
