Barons take two out of three against Mahoning Valley

The Cleveland Jr. Barons entered the holiday weekend with a five game winning streak, while facing their in-state rival the Mahoning Valley Phantoms for a three game series. The Barons would take the first two games 3-2 and 2-0 and the Phantoms would take the finale 4-0 in Boardman, OH. The Barons would end the weekend with a record of 23-13-4, 50pts, which is good for first place in the NAHL North Division

WEEKEND REVIEW

Friday, January 13th Cleveland 3- Mahoning Valley 2

The Phantoms would jump out to a 2-0 lead on a goal by forward Owen Meyer and former Barons defenseman John Kivisto. The Barons would answer back with two goals in the second period with goals by defenseman Trent Bonnett (Butler, OH), his 3rd of the year and Carter Camper (Rocky River, OH) ,his 23rd goal of the year with defenseman John Kennedy (Saginaw, MI) picking up the lone assist, to tie the score at two after two periods. In the third period, Barons defenseman Ricky Akkerman (Mora, MN) scored his 3rd goal of the year with Josh Leonard (Allen Park, MI) picking up the assist to gove the Barons a 3-2 lead. Barons goalie Bobby Jarosz (Crystal Lake, IL) picked the victory with a 35 save performance.

Saturday, January 15th Cleveland 2 -Mahoning Valley 0

The Barons would get both goals in the third period to give goalie Kenny Reiter (Pittsburgh, PA) his first shutout of the year. The Barons would get goals by Tomas Petruska (Presov, Slovakia) his 14th of the year, with Josh Leonard and Trent Bonnett picking up the assists. The Barons forward Carter Camper scored his 24th goal of the year with Josh Leonard and Tomas Petruska with assists.

Monday January 16th Cleveland 0- Mahoning Valley 4

The Phantoms would score twice each in the second and third period to gain a 4-0 victory, snapping the Barons seven game winning streak. Phantoms goalie Bryce Merriam earned the shutout and forward Drew Satterley had four points in the match. Barons goalie Bobby Jarosz had 38saves in the match.

NEW BARONS

The Barons would like to announce the acquisition of forward Derek Roehl (Clinton Twp, MI) defenseman Luke Buetow (Denver, CO). Barons Head Coach Jack Fritsche this to say on the newest Barons: "The acquisition of Buetow and Roehl will give us more depth and scoring, to achieve our main goal to make the playoffs.

STREAKING

The Barons have just completed their third multi- win streak of the season, the Barons started the season unbeaten in seven then put together an eight game and seven game winning streak repectively.

UPCOMING GAMES

The Barons will be participating in the North Division Showcase in Boardman, OH. The Barons will play the Springfield Jr. Blues on Thursday January 19th and Friday January 20th, both games at 11AM. The Barons will conclude the showcase with games versus the Traverse City North Stars on Saturday January 21st 11AM and Sunday January 22nd at 10AM.
