Jr Bandits to Face Jr Knighthawks for Inaugural I-90 Cup Rivalry Series

Buffalo Bandits News Release

One of the fiercest rivalries in the NLL heats up this Sunday, Aug. 18, junior style! The Jr. Buffalo Bandits and Jr. Rochester Knighthawks take the turf at Buffalo RiverWorks to battle for the inaugural I-90 Cup Rivalry Series.

Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget teams will each compete against their thruway rivals in a two-game series. If each team wins a game, a decisive 10-minute mini-game will determine the I-90 Cup Champions for that age group.

The annual Rivalry Series serves as a primer to the annual Jr. NLL Tournament in Oakville, Ont. from August 23-25.

"Both of our organizations have teams entered in the Jr. NLL Tournament next week," said Bandits Coordinator of Lacrosse Operations Dan Ristine. "Last year, being able to play games in a USBOXLA tournament before heading to Oakville proved to be invaluable for our junior teams. We had our best showing ever for our teams and we're hoping to build off of that success this year."

Brad Gillies, one of the coaches for the Jr. Knighthawks, came up with the idea for the Rivalry Series.

"We are really looking forward to starting this series," Gillies said. "I've played in a lot of great rivalry games against the Bandits as a player, so to continue this rivalry with the youth teams should be great. Plus, it will help prepare both teams for the strong competition at the Jr. NLL event.

The I-90 Cup Rivalry Series is free to attend, with game times set as follows:

Pee Wee: 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Bantam: 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Midget: 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
