Louisiana IceGators News Release

When most hockey fans think of the birth place of professional hockey players they do not typically envision Louisiana. However, IceGator fans and the rest of Louisiana should be proud to know that one of their own, Josh Duplantis is a true testament of where hard work and a dream can get you.

Duplantis, who was born in Houma, was bit by the hockey bug after watching the movie "The Mighty Ducks". Although there were no ice rinks around Lafayette when his family moved to Lafayette, he decided to join the local roller hockey league. However, just a few years later an ice facility (LA ICE) would be built in Carencro and Josh would make the transition to ice hockey. During his Jr. and Sr. years of high school Josh would move to Nashville to play for a AAA Midget travel team. Following high school he would move to Cincinnati to play junior hockey with the Cincinnati Cyclones.

After a year of junior hockey Josh would return to Louisiana to attend Nicholls State. While there Duplantis would earn a B.S. in Petroleum Services and Safety and later start his own oilfield rental company, "Offshore Service and Supply LLC". Eventually though, his love for the game and desire for competiveness would lead him back to hockey. A friend convinced him to try out for the IceGators in the summer of 2011. Josh met with IceGators' GM Louis Dumont and Coach Kevin Kaminski, trained hard, attended camp and signed his first professional hockey contract that October.

This season will be Josh's third with the IceGators. At 6' 01", 210 pounds he is a physical presence that can knock opponents off the puck, and create offensive opportunities for his team. In two seasons he has played in 107 games, posted 7 goals and 16 assists for 23 points. Last season he was awarded the "Louisiana IceGators Community Service Award" for his work of the ice with various charities and schools throughout Acadiana.

You can see your Louisiana boy, Josh Duplantis and the rest the IceGators in the Frozen Swamp for their home opener on November 1st at 7:05 pm. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 704-4423.
