San Rafael, CA - The San Rafael Pacifics announced today that 1987 American League MVP and former Oakland Athletics All-Star Jose Canseco will compete in a home run derby against three local high school standouts this Wednesday, August 17, at 6:45 PM.
"We're very excited to see Jose Canseco compete against some of our local high school stars in a home run derby this week," said Pacifics President and General Manager Mike Shapiro. "Marin County has so much baseball talent at the high school level, and this is a great chance to showcase their talent to the local community."
The high school sluggers will include Henry Zeisler, from Redwood High School, Nick Roth from Sir Francis Drake High School, and Parker Rey from Terra Linda High School.
Each participant will receive two minutes of allotted time to hit as many home runs as he can. The top two home run hitters from the first round will compete in the finals, where they will have an additional two minutes to hit as many homers as possible.
Canseco will also be making an appearance at Albert Park on Tuesday, August 16th, and will be available to sign autographs and take pictures with fans. The home run derby will precede a game between the Pacifics and the Pittsburg Diamonds.
