Jones named offensive player of the week

June 6, 2006 - arenafootball2 (af2) - Memphis Xplorers News Release

SOUTHAVEN --- The af2 league office announced today that Memphis Xplorers Quarterback Brian Jones has been named the Schutt Offensive Player of the Week. Jones was 19 for 21 passing for 240 yards and six touchdowns in last Saturday's 73-54 win at Stockton. He also added two rushing scores to increase his overall offensive touchdown total to 67; tops in the league. The team, meanwhile, improved to 8-2 and stayed in first place in the South Division.

Jones, a third year player out of Toledo, finds himself near the top of every major quarterback statistical category in af2.

He is number one in passer rating at 129.4 and yards per attempt at 9.0. His 55 touchdown passes are fourth, his 67.4% completion rate is third, his yards per completion average of 13.3 is second, and his total of 2608 passing yards is third.

A number that doesn't show up in the official rankings is the number of interceptions; four. One of his two incomplete passes last week was an interception; the first he had thrown in a month. Add his totals from last season to this season and Jones has 124 touchdown passes and just 11 interceptions in his last 25 games.

Passing isn't the only place on the af2 leader board where you will find Jones. He is also the league's second leading rusher with 181 yards and second with 12 rushing touchdowns. His 45 yard scoring dash at South Georgia in Week Seven is the longest this season in af2.

Jones and the rest of his Xplorers teammates are enjoying some rest this week during the team's bye week. The team will return to the DeSoto Civic Center next Saturday, June 17 when they host the Birmingham Seeldogs.
