CHICAGO - Spokane wide receiver/defensive back CHARLES FREDERICK, Memphis quarterback BRIAN JONES, and Arkansas defensive line specialist C.J. MCLAIN have been named the U.S. Army Ironman, Schutt Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 10 of the 2006 season. In addition to these three awards, the recipient of the Cutters Catch of the Week Award goes to South Georgia offensive specialist CHRIS MCKINNEY. The Catch of the Week is a new honor that highlights the player who makes the best catch of the week.
U.S. ARMY IRONMAN OF THE WEEK
Frederick (5-11, 195, Washington), in his rookie af2 season, was a playmaker on both sides of the ball and on special teams for the Spokane Shock in the team's 61-59 Week 10 home win against Central Valley. He was the difference maker for the Shock, scoring five total touchdowns. The former Husky had a game-high 28 rushing yards on six carries and an af2-season high tying four touchdowns. In addition to his exploits on the ground, Frederick led the Shock receiving corps with eight catches for 65 yards and a touchdown. He also accumulated 69 yards in kick returns. Defensively, Frederick registered a team-high 7.0 tackles and one pass breakup. This is his second Ironman of the Week honor in as many weeks.
SCHUTT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jones (6-2, 205, Toledo) commanded the Xplorers to a convincing 73-54 road win at Stockton in Week 10. In his third season with Memphis, Jones was responsible for eight of the team's offensive touchdowns, throwing for six and rushing for two. The former Rocket also completed over 90 percent of his passes (19-of-21) and finished with 240 yards passing. This is the third Offensive Player of the Week Award of Jones' career and his second this season. He was also honored in Week 3. Jones has the Xplorers perched atop the American Conference South Division with an 8-2 record.
ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
McLain (6-3, 270, Arkansas), a two-year af2 veteran and four-year AFL veteran, was a one-man tornado on defense in leading the Arkansas Twisters to a, 55-29, Week 10 home win against Bossier-Shreveport. The former Razorback posted 5.0 tackles, including a career-high and af2 season-high 4.0 sacks. His sack total was just a half a sack shy of a Twisters team record and one shy of the af2 all-time record. McLain also recorded two forced fumbles, one interception, a safety and a pass breakup. This is the first ADT Defensive Player of the Week Award of McLain's career.
