Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - Kyle Jones made 34 saves on the way to his first career shutout as the host Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, blanked the Muskegon Lumberjacks 3-0 Friday night. With the win the Mallards moved past the Dayton Gems into fifth place and pulled within sixth points of the fourth place Bloomington PrairieThunder and the final IHL playoff spot.

The Mallards took the lead midway through the first period when Patrick Levesque scored from the doorstep. Just over two and a half minutes later Juris Stals converted a penalty shot to stretch the advantage to 2-0.

Jones was then at his busiest in the second period, stopping 17 Muskegon shots as the Lumberjacks battled to bite into the Mallard lead.

Chris Lipsett clinched the win by scoring an empty net goal with 35 seconds left in the third period.

The Mallards return to action at home on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. against the Port Huron Icehawks. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for that game will receive Mallards commemorative cups.
