Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento River Cats (31-34) had pitching struggles early, and a home run from Ryder Jones was all they could muster offensively against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (33-29), as they dropped the series finale 7-1.
River Cats starting pitcher Tyler Beede recorded just two outs and was pulled after throwing 35 pitches in the first inning. He allowed two hits, a double and a triple, and walked two batters en route to four earned runs being charged to his name.
Sacramento did get one run on the board in the fourth as third baseman Ryder Jones pulled a 408-foot home run down the line in right for his fifth of the season, and 50th of his minor-league career. Outfielder Chris Shaw also chipped in with a two hits, giving him 11 multi-hit games on the season.
The River Cats will enjoy their second day off in the last nine days before heading to Round Rock, Tex. for a three-game set with the Express beginning Wednesday. Right-hander Taylor Hill (0-1, 7.45) will throw for Sacramento in his third start with the club. He'll face Round Rock left-hander Yohander Mendez (0-6, 5.26). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. (PT). Additional Notes
- In three scoreless innings of relief, right-hander Tyler Rogers fell just one strikeout short of his career high of six while lowering his team-best ERA to 1.67.
- Center fielder Steven Duggar's 10-game hitting streak came to an end with an 0-for-4 showing. He went 19-for-44 (.432) during the streak with nine doubles, two triples, and a home run.
