Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Friday, August 21, 2015) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers today announced the addition of defender Jonathan Borrajo to the club's roster. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Borrajo, 28, will wear the number 2 jersey for the Strikers and is available for selection for Sunday's match at FC Edmonton.
"Borrajo is a talented player that can play in many positions for us," said Strikers Head Coach Günter Kronsteiner. "He has worked his way back from a serious injury and physically looks very good and ready to contribute to the team right away."
The Strikers originally acquired Borrajo in January via a trade with the San Antonio Scorpions. Prior to the start of preseason training, the defender suffered an ACL injury that prohibited him from playing with the team.
Before signing with the Strikers, Borrajo played for the San Antonio Scorpions. In his first season in the NASL, Borrajo made 26 appearances, splitting time between right defense and holding midfield. He was an active member of the Scorpions defense that set a modern NASL record for fewest goals allowed with only 24 conceded during the 2014 regular season.
Last November, Borrajo started The Championship Final against the Strikers as San Antonio claimed the 2014 Soccer Bowl trophy with a 2-1 victory.
Borrajo played in Norway for HamKam and later Mjøndalen, and in Major League Soccer with the New York Red Bulls. He started his professional career in 2009 with the Real Maryland Monarchs.
The Clifton, New Jersey native played four years at George Mason University. While in college, Borrajo also played for the New York Red Bulls Academy.
