FCE Match Preview vs. Fort Lauderdale Strikers
August 21, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release
FC Edmonton (4W-3D-2L) will host Fort Lauderdale Strikers (2W-4D-2L) on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 2:00 p.m. MT in a match presented by AMARewards at Clarke Field. This will be the third meeting between the two clubs in the 2015 North American Soccer League (NASL) season.
The second place Eddies defeated Carolina RailHawks 3-0 at Clarke Field in their last outing. Eddies defender Kareem Moses and recently signed midfielder Dustin Corea received NASL Team of the Week honours for their strong performances against the RailHawks. Moses helped Eddies goalkeeper Matt VanOekel to their fourth and league-leading clean sheet of the Fall Season, while Corea recorded his first goal and assist as an Eddie.
Fort Lauderdale Strikers currently sit sixth in the Fall table, five points behind the Eddies. The Strikers are coming off a 2-1 win over Florida rivals Tampa Bay Rowdies. Midfielder James Marcelin and striker Stefano Pinho joined Moses and Corea on the Team of the Week for their goals versus Tampa Bay.
The Eddies defeated Fort Lauderdale 3-2 in April at Clarke Field. The Strikers were up 2-1 with 15 minutes to go when midfielder Sainey Nyassi and striker Tomi Ameobi scored two goals in five minutes to give the Eddies their first win of the 2015 season. The Strikers recently hosted the Eddies at Lockhart Stadium in the middle of a three-match road trip with a depleted squad and played to a 1-1 draw.
The Eddies are currently in fifth place in the Combined standings and could move into a playoff spot with a win versus Fort Lauderdale.
"I expect an entertaining game and difficult fixture against a good Fort Lauderdale team," Eddies head coach Colin Miller said. "They are a good side with pace, athleticism and technically very, very good players. We will be tested on Sunday, but we're doing well in those tests. We've given two goals away in four games, which is really good at the professional football level."
FC Edmonton will host Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 2:00 p.m. MT in a match presented by AMARewards. The match will be broadcast live locally on City TV.
