Joliet Slammers Awarded Commissioner's Award of Excellence
October 5, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Joliet Slammers News Release
Joliet, IL - The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy were awarded the Commissioner's Award of Excellence on Monday, September 28 at the Frontier League annual meetings hosted at Silver Cross Field Monday and Tuesday. The award was presented to the Slammers in acknowledgment of an increase in attendance and business development over the 2015 season.
"I am extremely proud of the Slammers business turnaround," said Frontier League Commissioner Bill Lee. "The efforts of the entire organization in 2015 were incredible. Very few organizations in the history of the Frontier League have accomplished so much."
Silver Cross Field welcomed over 95,000 guests in the 2015 Slammers season, up 10 percent from the 2014 season. The Joliet Slammers saw an increase of 200 fans per night, bringing the average nightly attendance to just over 2,000.
"We wouldn't be where we are today without the support of our fans," said Joliet Slammers President and majority owner Nick Semaca. "We have a great staff committed to making Silver Cross Field an affordable venue for family fun and entertainment. We work hard to put on a great show for our fans every night of the season and our attendance is proof that the community wants to be a part of this ballclub."
The Slammers hosted a number of theme nights throughout the 2015 season that proved to be a hit with fans, including two princess nights drawing nearly 7,000 fans between the two dates, a Halloween Night reaching an attendance of over 4,000 and a Happy Birthday Harry Potter celebration that drew more than 3,500 fans.
In addition to hosting theme nights and day-of-the-week promotions like $2 Tuesdays or Fireworks Fridays, the Slammers credit their increased attendance to the newest addition to Silver Cross Field in 2015 - a 900 square foot LED video board that enhances fans' experiences.
"With the new video board, we could offer our fans a better experience," Semaca said. "Not only does the board offer better graphics and animations, but we can do more with it. We now can show in-game replays on the board, show our between-innings contests with fans on the big screen and have even live look-ins during this year's Blackhawks playoff run. At the same time we are not at all satisfied with where we are as a franchise - while the recognition is appreciated we already are hard at work designing our 2016 promotions to make Silver Cross Field the place to be throughout all of next year!"
The next off-season event at Silver Cross Field will be held on October 7 for a Cubs wildcard viewing party. Gates open at 5 pm with the game shown on the video board at 7 pm. Tickets for the seating bowl are FREE and all draft beer is $2 - for further details visit www.jolietslammers.com or call 815-722-2287.
