Maryland Black Bears News Release
After picking up a 4-1 win the night before, the Maryland Black Bears looked to repeat the feat again on Saturday night in a rematch against the Johnstown Tomahawks. But after a hard-fought 60 minute battle in regulation, the game was tied 1-1 headed into overtime. There, it was Jake Black redirecting the game-winning goal into the net for a 2-1 Johnstown win with under two seconds left.
Tomahawks' forward Egan Schmitt snapped home the games' first goal while playing some four-on-four hockey in the second period to make it 1-0. Maryland was able to tie it when forward Brad McNeil redirected a shot in midway through the third period to tie the game 1-1. The game remained tied through regulation which saw the teams head to overtime. There, it was Johnstown forward Jake Black tipping home the game-winning goal with under two seconds left to win the game for the Tomahawks 2-1.
Despite the loss, Maryland gained a point and moved to three points out of first place in the East Division behind the New Jersey Titans. The Black Bears' next game will be Friday, February 4th as the Jamestown Rebels come to Piney Orchard Ice Arena. The game will be streamed on HockeyTV.
