Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, N.C - The Coastal Plain League announced today that Edenton's John Williams has been named the Rawlings Pitcher of the Week for week seven of CPL action.

Williams, a 6-1, 195-pound sophomore right-handed pitcher for the Steamers from George Mason University in the NCAA Division I Colonial Athletic Association threw a no-hitter for the Steamers against the Florence RedWolves on July 10th. The no-no was the first in Steamers franchise history and the 23rd in Coastal Plain League history.

The Haymarket, Va., native went the distance and allowed just three base runners all game. After retiring the first 12 RedWolves he faced, the righty hit a batter in the fifth inning. The next batter reached on a fielder's choice and Williams walked one in the sixth inning, while adding four strikeouts in the 4-0 Steamer victory.

Williams, in 2013 with Edenton, is 3-0 with a 1.07 ERA in eight appearances and three starts. In 33.2 innings pitched he has relinquished 22 hits, five walks and only four earned runs while tallying 28 strikeouts.

With his selection Williams becomes the second Steamer pitcher selected this summer for the award and the 19th hurler in franchise history to earn the weekly honor. He joins Steamer Nick Miller, who was selected as the Rawlings CPL Pitcher of the Week last week (Week six) and Josh Hampton, who was selected as the Rawlings CPL Hitter of the Week for week one. This also marks the first time the Steamers have had back-to-back Rawlings Pitcher of the Week selections this summer.
