John DeGroat named to CBA All-Star Game
January 17, 2008 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release
PITTSBURGH, January 17, 2008 - Pittsburgh Xplosion forward and former University of Pittsburgh player John DeGroat has been named to the 2008 CBA All-Star Classic. DeGroat will be on the American Conference roster for Monday night's game.
DeGroat has blossomed into a solid producer and a true go-to player for the Xplosion in the first half of the year. In his first CBA season, DeGroat is averaging 16.7ppg, and his 8.4rpg average is good for sixth in the CBA. He has scored in double figures in 21 of his 26 games and has recorded 10 double-doubles, fourth most in the CBA.
DeGroat was named American Conference Player of the Week for the week ending January 6.
He is often matched against larger forwards, allowing the 6-foot-6 DeGroat to make up for that disadvantage with his quickness. DeGroat is fourth in the league in steals at 2.0spg.
Joining DeGroat on the American Conference roster from the Xplosion will be point guard Shaun Fountain and center John Strickland. Only the Yakama Sun Kings have more representatives with four.
The Xplosion return home from a 10-game road trip February 1 when they host the Atlanta Krunk. For more information, visit the team's official Web site at www.pittsburghxplosion.com.
