NEW ORLEANS (January 27, 2011) - John Curtis Christian High School (River Ridge, La.) senior pole vaulter Dalton Duvio has been selected this week's New Orleans VooDoo and WGNO "VooDoo Prep Athlete of the Week," announced the organization on Thursday afternoon.
Duvio has combined athletic and academic excellence his entire prep career, and is on pace to be his graduating class' valedictorian. He led the Patriots to the school's first state championship in track and field in 26 years last season, while also winning the individual state title in the pole vault competition as a junior.
During the summer, Duvio vaulted 16-foot 4-inches to help lead the New Orleans team to the NAPVA Championships in Clovis, Calif. His 16-foot vault most recently at the Carl Lewis Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston, on January 15 placed second among high school competitors.
The two-time National Champion in both the AAU Junior Olympics and USATF Junior Olympics will continue his studies and athletic career at Stanford University under the guidance of Olympic silver medalist coach Toby Stevenson.
Duvio will be featured tonight on the 6:30 p.m. sportscast on ABC 26, and the segment will be archived on the internet at www.abc26.com/voodoo.

Nomination-to-selection process on a weekly basis:
Wednesday: Nominations due at 10 a.m.; top three nominees announced at 12 p.m.; poll appears on ABC26 website for public vote;
Thursday thru Sunday: Public vote continues; online voting closes at 5 p.m. and prep athlete of the week is then notified.
Thursday: New Orleans VooDoo and ABC26 Prep Athlete of the Week is announced via www.aflvoodoo.com in a written release; ABC26 interviews prep athlete of the week.
Thursday: Segment on prep athlete of the week appears in 6:30 p.m. sportscast. Segment is also archived at www.abc26.com/voodoo
