TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Storm have signed defensive linemen Jarriett Buie and Derrius Monroe as well as defensive back Justin Hannah, announced Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum.
Buie, (6-foot-3, 250 lbs., South Florida) a local prep and college standout, returns to the Tampa Bay area to continue his football career. He spent last season with the Orlando Tuskers (CFL) and Montreal Alouettes (CFL). In 2009 Buie was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFL) as an undrafted free agent and released in September. He spent 2004-2008 at USF and recorded 74 tackles, including 15 for a loss and seven sacks. His senior year he started all 13 games for the Bulls and reached career highs in tackles (31), tackles for a loss (8) and sacks (5).
He played high school football at Armwood (Seffner, FL) High School where he earned First-team Class 4A and Hillsborough County Defensive Player of the Year honors for the 4A State Champion Armwood Hawks.
Monroe (6-5, 280, Virginia Tech) was a seventh round draft pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2002 and spent time with the Dallas Cowboys on the practice squad. He recorded 35 tackles, one for a loss and a sack in 22 games for the Hokies. As a senior at Godby (Tallahassee, FL) High School, Monroe earned honorable mention All-USA honors as picked by USA Today.
Hannah, (5-9, 185, Tuskegee) a four-year starter at cornerback for the Tuskegee Golden Tigers accumulated 16 career interceptions and was a part of four Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship teams from 2006-09. He also was a three-time first team All-SIAC selection, the SIAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year and named to the 2009 Sheridan All-America team.
The Storm are universally recognized as one of the leading teams in the Arena Football League, setting numerous attendance records in its 23 years. The team won world championships in 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996 and 2003, winning the last championship in front of a sell-out crowd of 20,496 at the St. Pete Times Forum.
