Anderson Joes News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - History repeated itself Friday night, except this time it needed extra innings.
True to form, the Joes recovered from a game one loss at Charlotte County and took game two from the Redfish, 5-4, in 12 innings in front of 1,892 at Charlotte County Sports Park.
Never before had the Joes and Redfish played an extra-inning game, but Anderson (18-17, 31-49 overall) showed mettle in the victory that comes from having played in a league-high 11 extra-inning games this season.
Brandon Davis played the hero for the Joes, coming on as a pinch-hitter in the top of the 12th inning. The last position player on the bench, Davis came up with Hector Borg at second base and Chris Demons at first and drove Borg in to break a 4-4 tie with a bloop single to shallow right field.
Charlotte County (8-25, 20-58) came back from deficits all night but, in the end, fell to Davis' late-game heroics.
The Joes established a 2-0 lead early with Steve Pearson's two-run home run, his second long ball of the season, in the top of the second inning. The Redfish answered with a two-run double by Andrew Wong in the bottom half of the frame to tie the game.
Anderson scored again in the fourth and the eighth innings, taking a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth, at which point Charlotte County used two RBI doubles to tie the game.
Scoreless relief for both teams pushed the game to the deciding 12th inning, when Davis gave the Joes their sixth road win of the season in the team's final trip to the plate.
Other notable performers for Anderson included Rafael Alvarez, who went 2-5 with two runs, and Demons, who had two hits, an RBI and two stolen bases in just his second start for the Joes.
Jan Granado started for Anderson and contributed another solid effort, lasting seven innings and allowing two runs on six hits. While he matched a season-high with five walks, he made up for it with 10 strikeouts, the fifth time this season Granado has K'ed double-digit batters in a game.
Joey Muro earned the win for Anderson, improving to 3-1, while Dan Chaffardet took the loss for Charlotte County, dropping to 1-6. Tyler Addison allowed an innocent single in an otherwise uneventful 12th inning to earn his fifth save of the season.
The Joes and Redfish meet again Saturday for the series finale, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Dave Rider will start for Anderson, which will look to win all three series in Charlotte County this season.
