Anderson Joes News Release

In what had already been a thrilling, action-packed and winning week for Anderson, the Joes capped it off with perhaps their most exciting win of the season, defeating Aiken, 6-5, on a Hector Borg walk-off, sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning in front 1,603 at Anderson Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Borg, who has played a direct role in three late-inning wins in Anderson's last five games, was at it again Saturday. The Joes had trailed 5-1 in the middle of the fifth inning before mounting their slow comeback. Anderson tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull within one but would wait until the ninth inning for the final gusto.

Richard Quihuis-Bell led off the inning with a walk, after which Tanner Rogers pinch-ran for him. Rogers stole second, advancing to third on a throwing error by Foxhounds catcher Jeff Timmons. Brandon Carter then came up and hit the game-tying double to left field, driving in Rogers. On an Aiken error on the ensuing relay throw, Carter advanced to third.

Then Borg stepped up with a chance to win his third game in a week for Anderson. After working a 2-2 count, Borg delivered a sacrifice fly to deep center field, driving in Carter for the win.

Anderson's dugout poured onto the field, at first mobbing Borg in front of first base and then lifting him up on their shoulders in celebration.

It adds to Borg's quickly expanding list of game-ending plays. Tuesday, his bunt forced a South Georgia error in the bottom of the ninth inning in a tie game, which allowed Carter to score the walk-off run from first base. Thursday, in a 6-6 game with runners at first and third in the eighth inning against Aiken, Borg delivered the go-ahead single.

Saturday, he added to his growing legend.

"One more time baby, one more time," Borg said. "I'm so happy. ...That's what we need."

The Joes have now won three games in a row for the first time this year, as well as having swept an opponent for the first time this season, as well, improving to 11-27 on the year.

Aiken has dropped a season-high seven games in a row, falling to 19-19.

Andy Carter earned the win, moving to 1-3 on the year. Gary Lee blew the save, dropping to 1-2 with the loss.

Anderson returns to action Monday after a day off Sunday. The Joes will visit the league-leading South Georgia Peanuts to try and continue their winning ways at 7:05 p.m.

"On Monday we have to start again, keep playing hard and playing like that," Borg said. "We have beautiful fans, and for them we have to play hard."
