Joe Calfapietra Wins Manager of the Year

The New Jersey Jackals are proud to announce Joe Calfapietra has been named the Can-Am League's Manager of the Year.

Coincidentally, this comes on the heels of Calfapietra's 500th Jackals win, whose current record is 499-426 with the club.

This is the fourth Manager of the Year award for the Jackals' skipper and second in the Can-Am League. He last won Can-Am Manager of the Year with New Jersey in 2009.

Through 95 games this season, the Jackals have posted a 56-39 record, second best in the Can-Am League. They will look claim their first title since then when the Jackals face the Capitals in the 2012 Can-Am Championship Series next month.

This is Joe Calfapietra's 13th managerial season and 10th as Jackals manager. Last year, he coached the Jackals to a 57-36 record, the most wins in a Jackals season since 2002.

This year, he helped move former relief pitcher Zach Woods into affiliated baseball. Woods threw to a 3.38 ERA in 31 games with new Jersey before moving to the Staten Island Yankees earlier in August.

Calfapietra began his coaching career with the Northern League's Duluth-Superior Dukes in 1994 before spending the 1995 and 1996 seasons with the Aberdeen Pheasants of the Prairie League. In 1997, Calfapietra joined manager Ed Ott's coaching staff with the Allentown Ambassadors as Director of Baseball Operations. Calfapietra was named the Ambassadors manager in 2000 at the age of 29, making him the youngest manager in Northern League history.
