Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pensacola Pelicans are pleased to announce they will be hosting their First-Ever Hot Stove Banquet on Monday, Nov. 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The banquet is free to Pelicans season ticket holders and certain level sponsors. The public can attend for $25, which also gets them two tickets to the 2010 home opener, by reserving their spot to Jason@pensacolapelicans.com or by calling 850-934-8444.
Jim "The Rookie" Morris will be the presenting speaker following dinner. Morris is famed by his incredible inspirational life story, made into the hit Disney movie The Rookie, of never giving up on his dream of playing professional baseball. After his high school team, in which he coached, won the district title, Morris fulfilled a promise to his players by attending a Major League try-out. Morris quickly impressed the scouts by throwing 12 consecutive pitches at 98 mph. The Tampa Bay Rays signed him to contract and the hard-throwing southpaw finally made his major league debut on Sept. 18, 1999 at the age of 35. Morris spent parts of two seasons in the big leagues before arm injuries forced him to retire.
Morris is now a national speaker on various topics including Never Give Up on a Dream, Living Your Life with Integrity, Taking Advantage of Second Chances, Getting the Most Out of Who You Are, Finding a Mentor and Becoming a Leader, Remembering Who You Are, and Learning How to Laugh at Yourself. Following his speech, Morris will be available for photos and autographs.
"This event is one of several added value benefits for being a season ticket holder and sponsor of the Pelicans," commented Pelicans general manager Talmadge Nunnari. "We realize the importance of our fans and supporters in making this team a success. This will be fun event and good opportunity for everyone from the park to see each other again."
The term "Hot Stove" is a long-time baseball term that refers to the time between the end of one season and the beginning of spring training. The period is when die hard passionate fans would gather around a hot stove during the winter months and discuss their favorite teams, players, games, etc. This is also the time when a multitude of player transactions occur, called the "Hot Stove League."
It's not too late to get invited to this and other VIP Pelicans events. 2010 season ticket packages area now available starting at only $160. Other gift packages begin at $54. Fans can call the Pelicans office at 850-934-8444 for more information or to reserve their seats.
