Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release
Friday Night The Jets played forty minutes of the game and dropped the puck in the third giving up three unanswered goals falling for the seventh straight time versus North Iowa.
North Iowa jumped out 1-0 on a power-play goal by Tyler Jundt just 1:42 in the game. The Jets would counter five minutes later short-handed as Marc Harrie slid one between the legs of Zak Reneau to even the score. Joe Harcharik rifled a shot that deflected off the blocker of Okland and trickled across the line for a 2-1 Outlaw lead. It would be Cody Bottom taking the feed from Tyler Klein making it 2-2. Jordy Trottier and Klein would give the Jets a lead 4-2 until Alex Carlson buried another Outlaw goal ending the first 4-3 Jets.
The Outlaws and Jets would exchange penalties in the second and scoring opportunities but remained scoreless. The Jets would hang on for the 4-3 lead heading into the second intermission. North Iowa would out shoot the Jets 32-11 but couldn't even the score.
North Iowa would avenge that second period and snipe the game tying goal by Jundt, 4-4. A slight redirection of the puck off the near board onto Benedict's skate would leave Ross Ring-Jarvi streaking to the net and giving North Iowa the lead for good, 5-4. The Jets would have multiple opportunities to get the game back in the saddle but fell apart. The game would end 6-4 and the Jets reeling for answers on their end.
Okland was pulled midway through the third for Scott Zacharias to solve the problem and it didn't work. Trottier finished with a goal and assist in the losing effort and Klein added another goal and an assist.
Saturday Night It was a battle royal as North Iowa dug in and hung on for a wild 3-2 win extending their streak over the Jets to eight games, 3-2.
North Iowa tacked on an early goal from Krystian Dziubinski with the help of Max Mobley making 1-0. The Jets would fire shot after shot will nothing to show for it and the power-play reeling again. The first ended with the Jets down and not out, 1-0.
The Outlaws came out roaring again in the second with help from their friends the refs and a 5-3 power-play for: 35 that were eventually killed off. Not more than five second later Bryant Skarda nailed one home making it 2-0, North Iowa. The Jets would make every effort to get back into it but nothing was working. Elliot Okland continued to make big saves keeping the boys within striking distance, which would prove to be critical come late in the game. The Jets would out shoot North Iowa 15-11 in the period but still trailed 2-0.
The third period started like every other this night with another Outlaw goal off the stick of Max Mobley and it was 3-0. It would take every ounce of energy and the final seven minutes for the offense to get things going. Mike Schumacher took a feed from Tyler Klein pinning the score at 3-1, North Iowa. Mark Johnson and unit would go to work again with time ticking away on a nifty shot up and over Matt Beggs for the second score in three minutes. It was too little too late as the Jets pulled Okland to get the extra attacker and came up short.
Mike Schumacher finished with a goal and an assist collecting a star of the game with Okland's 32 saves. The Jets return home for 80's Night on the 12th against Alexandria at 7:05pm. Fans can tune in on fmjets.com at 6:45pm for the pre-game.
Weak and Powerless The Jets started off the season with a top notch power-play unit and have struggles as of late going (6-15) in their last three contests. Minus this past week or so and the PP has been put to rest. Overall on the season the Jets rank 5th in NAHL but haven't pulled the trigger much of late.
Rush into the Playoffs It's time to start thinking about the future and Coach Johnson stressed over the weekend about looking ahead due to a tough road ahead. Alexandria sits just two points back of the Jets with this weekend's series home-and-home against the Blizzard.
Return of the John E The Jets will finally play at the confines of their home on Saturday for the first time since December 1st, 2007. Its 80's Night comes Saturday and fans are encouraged dress with the decade!
