June 7, 2006 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(Lancaster, CA) - The JetHawks gave up a season high 19 hits, and allowed eight runs to go with them. However, the JetHawks offense picked up the slack, erasing a six run deficit, scoring ten times in the last five innings, and coming up big at the end to beat the Bakersfield Blaze 12-8. The JetHawks finish their final homestand of the first half 4-2 and have now won 11 of their last 14 games.

Bakersfield jumped on JetHawks starter Esmerling Vasquez for three runs in the first, one in the second, and two more in the third before chasing Vasquez from the game. They scored two more runs off reliever Mark Rosen to expand their lead to 8-2.

The JetHawks big inning came in the fifth. Derek Bruce led off with a double and scored on a Chris Rahl ground out. Carlos Gonzalez, Mark Reynolds, and Cesar Nicolas all had singled, then Brandon Burgess hit a three run homer to get the JetHawks to within one. Carlos Gonzalez had an RBI double in the sixth to tie the game.

It remained tied into the eighth, thanks to two scoreless innings of relief by Dan Pohlman. In the bottom of the eighth, Bruce led off with a hit again, then scored the go ahead run on an RBI single by Rahl. Gonzalez and Reynolds each added another RBI as the JetHawks went from six runs down to four runs up. Matt Elliott finished off the Blaze in the ninth to seal the win for Lancaster.

Carlos Gonzalez had his second four-hit game of the season, coming just a triple short of the cycle and knocking in three runs. Derek Bruce also had three hits in the win.

The JetHawks start a ten game road trip Thursday in San Bernardino against Inland Empire. Matt Green (2-5) goes to the hill for Lancaster against the 66ers Robert Rohrbaugh (4-1). First pitch is at 7:11 p.m. with the Burns Pharmacy JetHawks Pre-Game Show on Magic 1340 AM and www.jethawks.com starting at 7:00 p.m. The broadcast will also be simulcast on Fox Sports 610 AM.
