JetHawks Defeat Error-Plagued Visalia

The JetHawks pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of four Visalia errors en route to posting a 9-3 victory over the Rawhide in the opener of a three-game series at Clear Channel Stadium Tuesday. After Visalia struck first with a run in the top of the third, the JetHawks scored a pair of unearned runs off Rawhide starter Ryan Cook in the bottom of the frame. Albert Cartwright singled to start the inning and took second base on a fielding error by Visalia center fielder Alfredo Marte. After Cartwright moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Wikoff, Andy Simunic reached on a throwing error from third basemen RyanWheeler, which allowed Cartwright to score. Simunic scored later in the inning on Brian Pellegrini's RBI single that gave Lancaster a 2-1 edge.

The JetHawks tacked on two more runs in the fourth on an RBI single from Federico Hernandez. Lee Cruz scored from third on the play and Brandon Barnes scored from first when Marte misplayed the ball for his second error of the contest.

Pellegrini drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth and the JetHawks broke the game open with four runs in the eighth. Cruz belted a two-run homer in the eighth and Hernandez added an RBI double.

Ross Seaton (5-10) allowed six hits and three runs, two of which were earned, with two walks and a strikeout in seven innings pitched and earned his fifth win of the season.

Brian Wabick tossed two innings of scoreless relief to pick up his third save of the season. Cook (4-6) took the loss for Visalia.

With the win, the JetHawks improved to 13-19 in the second half and 36-66 overall. The Rawhide fell to 15-17 in the second half and 52-50 overall. The JetHawks and Rawhide will square off again Wednesday night at Clear Channel Stadium. Lancaster will start right-hander Robert Donovan (0-1, 15.00 ERA). The Rawhide are expected to counter with lefty Taylor Sinclair (6-4, 3.61 ERA).
