(LANCASTER, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks and Child Care Resource Center (CCRC) have teamed up to promote literacy throughout the Antelope Valley with the inaugural Laps 4 Literacy, a 5K walk, family expo and book drive at Clear Channel Stadium October 2. The JetHawks and CCRC will kick off the event with the Laps 4 Literacy Starting Line Book Drive at Clear Channel Stadium August 1. Fans can receive a free reserved seat ticket for Sunday's JetHawks game against the Bakersfield Blaze by donating a new or gently used book at the stadium box office.

"CCRC is very excited about this partnership," says CCRC CEO and President Dr. Michael Olenick. "We take great pride in our history of providing quality services and programs that strengthen the communities we serve and the JetHawks organization has a long-standing history of giving back to the communities it serves. I'm grateful to the JetHawks and the generosity of their fans."

JetHawks Vice President and General Manager Larry Thornhill echoed Olenick's sentiments.

"We are thrilled to join forces with CCRC for this event," says Thornhill. "Literacy is vital to the intellectual development of children and significantly impacts the overall quality of a life in the community. We hope to make Laps 4 Literacy a successful community event for years to come."

Sunday's game is the third Dog Day afternoon of the season. Fans can purchase pooch passes for $3 and sit with their dogs on the grass berms in the Hangar. It's also the third Hangar Hero poster giveaway with the first 500 fans receiving a Hangar Heroes poster of the "Cyclones", Freddy Parejo and Brandon Barnes.
