Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

RANCHO CUCAMONGA-Every Lancaster starter had at least one hit and the JetHawks socked three home runs in an 11-4 pounding of Rancho Cucamonga before 2,442 fans at the Epicenter Monday night. The win was the season-high fifth straight for the JetHawks and moved them to 22-29 on the year, while the Quakes fell to 26-25.

Rancho Cucamonga actually opened the scoring, as Pat Reilly hit his team-leading third triple of the year with two away in the second and came in to score on an error by Lancaster third baseman Rusty Ryal. That was as good as it would get for the Quakes though, as Lancaster scored seven unanswered runs to put a stranglehold on the game. The JetHawks took the lead in the fourth on a two-run homer by Brandon Burgess, and Carlos Gonzalez added a three-run blast in the fifth when Quakes starter Nick Green missed his location and threw a 1-2 fastball right down the middle. Lancaster tacked on two more runs in the seventh off reliever Dan Hawkins to make it 7-1 before Rancho Cucamonga rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by Nate Sutton's two-run triple. Lancaster finished things off in the eighth though, scoring four more runs against Hawkins with Ryal's three-run homer doing the bulk of the damage.

Matt Green (2-4) looked nothing like a pitcher with an ERA of 8.17 coming in, as he turned in his second straight quality start allowing four runs (three earned) and seven hits in 6.1 innings. He walked two and struck out one. Rancho Cucamonga's Green (5-3) took the loss, allowing five runs and eight hits in six innings. He has now given up a team-high nine home runs this season and has allowed seven dingers in his last five starts. Sutton, Reilly, and Michael Collins all had two hits for the Quakes, but Drew Toussaint went 0-4 and saw his hitting streak end at eight games.

Game two in this three game series is set for 7:05 p.m. Tuesday and will be carried live on KWRM-AM 1370 and online at www.rcquakes.com. Francisco Rodriguez (1-4, 3.66 ERA) will start for the Quakes while the Hawks counter with A.J. Shappi (2-5, 8.08 ERA). For more information, please call the Quakes at (909) 481-5000.

Notes: The Quakes placed Freddy Sandoval on the disabled list retroactive to May 23rd before the game with a back strain and added infielder Abel Nieves to the active roster. Nieves hit .111 (1-9) in three games at Class AAA Salt Lake to open the year. Rancho Cucamonga also has a new strength and conditioning coach, as Chris Segarra has replaced Jim McDonald.
