JERSEY PURCHASES THURSDAY TO HELP HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORTS
OTTAWA - Fans purchasing an Ottawa Renegades jersey at Thursday night's game against the B.C. Lions will also be helping relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina.
The team, in partnership with Sports Experts, announced Wednesday that $5 off every jersey sold on Thursday night at Frank Clair Stadium will go to the Red Cross to help the victims of the disaster. The contribution comes a day after the club unveiled a plan that will have commemorative Mardi Gras bead necklaces available on game day, in exchange for a donation to the Red Cross.
Jersey prices start as low as $24.95 (for 2004 Reebok game sweaters) and will be on sale at kiosks throughout stadium grounds.
"This is something we think is important and it's devastating for what has happened down there in the U.S.," said Mike Swartzack, General Manager of Sports Experts Ottawa. "It's hit close to home with the players affected with the Renegades and the entire CFL and this is the least we can do."
"This is just another way that our fans can help with the hurricane relief efforts," said Lonie Glieberman, president of the Ottawa Renegades. "Now our supporters can wear the jerseys of their favourite players and help out an important cause as well."
Renegades merchandise is available at each of the three Sports Experts locations in Ottawa (Rideau Centre downtown, at the Bayshore Shopping Centre and St-Laurent Mall), as well as the outlets in Gatineau.
Ottawa returns to action on their home turf on Thursday, September 8 for a Week 11 affair against the B.C. Lions at Frank Clair Stadium. That is the first of two consecutive home games for the Renegades with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers coming to Lansdowne Park on Friday, Sept. 16. Tickets to both games are available either at the Renegades ticket office (1015 Bank Street), on the Internet (http://www.capitaltickets.ca), by phone (613.599.3267 or 877.788.3267), any Sports Experts location in the Ottawa and Gatineau regions as well as the Corel Centre Box Office in Kanata.
