Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons will celebrate Veterans Day during a pair of November games this season, culminating with a specialty jersey auction to benefit Operation Soldier's Patriot Down Foundation.
Falcons players will wear military-themed jerseys during their games on Nov. 11 and 12 against the Utah Grizzlies and San Diego Gulls, respectively. Veterans and current members of the military will be honored and recognized throughout both games, and following the game against the Gulls on the 12th, fans will then bid for the game-worn jerseys during a live auction.
Post-game, live auctions for game-worn specialty Falcons jerseys first began on St. Patrick's Day of 2001. Since then, Falcons fans have spent more than $200,000 to raise money for local beneficiary non-profit organizations, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Community Food Bank, Poverello House and the Rick Grimsley Trust, and even timely national causes like the New York City Fallen Heroes Fund.
The non-profit Operation Soldier was founded in 2004 to support the brave men and women of the United States Military while they selflessly serve abroad. Specifically through room and board assistance, the Patriot Down Foundation helps alleviate the financial burden on wounded soldiers' families whose loved ones are recuperating at out of town military hospitals throughout the country.
"We're fortunate that our schedule provides us with the perfect opportunity to honor our nation's military," said Falcons president Greg Schuh. "All of our jersey auctions benefit worthy causes, and Operation Soldier is no different. We look forward to helping their Patriot Down Foundation, which does a tremendous service by providing tangible assistance to wounded soldiers and their families in a time of need."
"We are very excited about joining the Fresno Falcons for the games surrounding the Veterans Day Holiday," added John Bush, president of Operation Soldier. "The contribution from the Falcons jersey auction will allow Operation Soldier to help those that need it most, the men and women of the United States Military, and their families, who have sacrificed so much so that all of us can enjoy our day to day lives that we often take for granted."
