EVANSVILLE, IN.--- With the Central Hockey League recently completing their annual Summer Conference meetings in Tempe, Arizona the past weekend, the sessions were culminated by the league's annual Summer Conference Awards Banquet.
As an integral and intrinsic part of the league meetings and concluding banquet, the league honored long-time league veteran JEFF CHRISTIAN with the RICK KOZUBACK AWARD.
The award is named for the former President of the Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL) and current President / CEO of Global Entertainment, the Central Hockey League's parent company. Christian was the honored recipient of the annual award, capping the 2010-11 campaign as a member of the Evansville IceMen.
Christian, a veteran of some 21-seasons in the professional hockey wars was presented the award as the Central Hockey League owner, front office staff member, coach or player who best exemplifies the pre-eminent qualities of perseverance, determination and total overall commitment to the game, sport and business of hockey.
Jeff and his family have fought and endured a year-long battle against cancer diagnosed in his young daughter, nine-year-old Ryan, as well as on the ice. Known affectionately by his teammates as "J.C.," he continued to play at the highest level in the CHL as an exemplary ambassador for the game and the league as a member of the Missouri Mavericks during the 2009-10 season and as a member of both the Mississippi RiverKings and Evansville IceMen during the 2010-11 campaign.
Upon his acquisition by the IceMen on February 23rd of this calendar year, the Burlington, Ontario native amplified on his already rich resume of majestic achievements averaging over a point a game in 15-outings, registering 19-points on 8-goals, 11-assists with 2-PPG, 2-SHG, 2-GWG and 3-FG. He also collected 20-PIM and superb +5 rating with the IceMen. For the entire season, he was 67(22-36-58) with 62-PIM and 23-PP/points on 7-goals, 16-assists. He added 3-SHG, 5-GWG and 5-UG.
The 2007 CHL Most Valuable Player and Joe Burton Scoring Champion was joined on stage by his daughter Ryan in accepting the league-wide coveted honor.
