Jeff Andra Slams Door on Albany 5-1

LH Jeff Andra spun a complete-game 4-hitter with 1 unearned run as the Pioneers knocked off the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs 5-1 in front of 1913 fans on Chemung Cou nty Employees Night at Dunn Field.

Andra (5-4) got back on track after going 1-4 in his last 6 starts. Ironically, the loss that began the bad streak came at Albany-Colonie on 6/10. All 4 Albany-Colonie hits were singles. The former Giants farmhand had 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in the masterpiece.

Rafael Alvarez slammed his 4th HR of the season and Brian Jones added a 2-run double in the 6th inning. The Pioneers scored 2 runs in the 3rd and 3 runs in the 6th to finish the first half of the season 25-20. Albany is 21-24 as the Pioneers took 2 out of 3 games on the series.

Andra gave up an unearned run in the top of the 1st inning as Miguel Vilorio beat out an infield single, advanced to 2nd on a throwing error by 2B Ron Bush moved to 3rd on a groundout and scored on a passed ball.

Alvarez hit a solo shot to right-center in the 3rd over the AM-820 WWLZ sign to tie the game at 1-1. Then Bryan Morse (3-1) walked Pedro Quero who came around to score on back to back singles by Brandon Pernell and Norm Hutchins to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead in the same inning.

In the 6th against Chris Begg, Norm Hutchins legged out an infield single, Osmani Garcia looped a base-hiot to shallow left and Brian Jones brought in both runners with a double to the wall in right-center giving the Pio's a 4-1 lead. Jones moved to 3rd on a single by Bobby Hill and scored on a Sac-Fly by Ron Bush to complete the scoring.

The Pioneers have a day off Thursday and then continue the homestand Friday night opening the 2nd half of the season against the Brockton Rox at 7:05.
