Jaxx walk off Braves in 13th inning

JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 29, 2009) - Matt Mangini's solo blast in the bottom of the 13th inning sends the Diamond Jaxx (4-4) home happy on Monday night with a 5-4 victory to even the series against the Mississippi Braves (4-3). The Jaxx are now 3-3 in extra inning games. The Jaxx and Braves played a 16 inning affair back on June 1st at Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS which was the longest in Braves history. Mangini was 2-for-3 at the plate with the homer and two RBI. Mangini reached base five times. Yamid Haad goes 3-for-5 five at the dish and scores a run. Phillipe Aumont (1-2) earned his first Double-A win dealing two innings of relief.

Greg Halman has hit in each of his five games since coming off the DL on Thursday. In the bottom of the first, Halman hit his 15th

homerun of the season to right-center. The solo shot put the Jaxx on the board and a 1-0 lead.

Again on Monday night, the Braves responded to a Diamond Jaxx score. Jaxx starter, Luis Munoz sat down the first 10 Braves that came to the plate. Concepcion Rodriguez doubled to left with one out in the top of the fourth. With two outs, J.C. Boscan drove in Rodriguez with a single to right.

The Diamond Jaxx sent eight batters to the plate and scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Matt Mangini singled off the wall in left with the bases loaded to bring in Yamid Haad. Then, two batters later, with two outs, Mel Stocker drove in David Espinosa and Johan Limonta with a single to right field. The Jaxx took a 4-1 lead.

The Braves answered once again by scoring three in the top of the eighth. Willie Cabrera led the inning off with his 5th homer of the season. Munoz walked J.C. Boscan and Nick Hill came on to relieve the right-hander. Hill surrendered a base hit to Greg Creek putting two aboard. After a sacrifice bunt, Kody Kirkland reached on an error by Jaxx second baseman, David Espinosa. Boscan scored on the ball hit and Creek scored on a throwing error by Espinosa. After the wacky top of the seventh the Braves and Jaxx were knotted at 4-4.

Luis Munoz picks up a no decision going six innings, giving up three runs on three hits in the outing. Munoz struck out four and walked just one while sitting down the first 10 batters he faced on Monday night. Kyle Cofield notched a good start for the Braves dealing six innings. Cofield allowed four runs on four hits while striking out five and walking five.

Nick Hill got through the seventh through ninth inning for the Jaxx scoreless. Hill gave up one un-earned run on one hit, while striking out two. Also, Anthony Varvaro dealt two scoreless innings and struck out two in the extra innings.

Finally, with one out in the bottom of the 13th, Matt Mangini homered to right sending the Diamond Jaxx fans home happy and a 5-4 win over the Braves.

Phillipe Aumont (1-2) earns his first Double-A win going two innings in relief. Aumont struck out three and hit a batter. The loss goes to Brian Dumesnil (1-5) for the Braves,

Steven Shell (2-0, 0.60) starts for the Jaxx tonight. Shell has allowed just one earned run in 15 innings for the Jaxx. RHP Jeff Lyman (4-5, 3.55) starts for the Braves.
