Knoxville Smokies News Release
Jackson, Tenn. - West Tenn snapped the Smokies season high six game win streak with a seventh inning flurry, ending a classic pitcher's duel between Rhett Parrott and Angel Guzman Friday night at Pringles Park. Parrott (L, 1-2) and Guzman matched each other's scoreless innings until Guzman left in the sixth and Parrott tired in the seventh. The Diamond Jaxx scored three times in the seventh inning and held off the Smokies for a 3-2 win in the second game of a four game series.
Parrott retired sixteen straight between the first and sixth innings and faced the minimum number of batters through 6 1/3 innings. The Jaxx used consecutive singles by Brendan Harris and Donny Leon to start their rally. Jason Dubois was walked to load the bases and Jose Velasques chased Parrott with a two run single. Juan Figueroa followed Parrott and allowed an RBI single to Casey Kopitzke that put West Tenn up by three.
Eric Brown (4-0) pitched a scoreless seventh for the win.
The Smokies rallied in the eighth when a walk to John Gall and double by Corey Erickson preceeded a two run single from Yadier Molina. Jason Karnuth, who allowed Erickson's and Molina's hits, retired the final four batters he faced to earn his fifth save of the season.
The series continues Saturday night with Dan Haren (4-0, 1.09) starting for the Smokies opposite John Webb (0-4, 7.46).
