German, Gomes Power O-Rays to 2nd Straight Win

ORLANDO -The Orlando Rays offense stayed hot Friday, pounding out 12 hits on their way to a 6-1 win over the visiting Birmingham Barons in front of 4,496 fans at Cracker Jack Stadium.

Amado German led the charge for the Rays with a 3-4 performance that included a single, double and triple, as well as an RBI and run scored. Jonny Gomes went 2-4 with a double and a triple, while Gabby Martinez also chipped in three hits to push Orlando to their second straight win.

Rays starting pitcher Brian Stokes (1-3) earned his first win of the season, throwing 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out three. The Rays right-hander entered the game at 0-3 despite holding the ninth-best ERA in the Southern League at 2.13.

The Rays and Barons square off again tomorrow at 7:05 as the Rays send RHP Doug Waechter (1-2, 3.10) to the mound to face LHP Neal Cotts (4-0, 0.98).

O-Rays Notes:

· Tomorrow is the second of three Home Run Reading Derby celebration nights for local school children from Seminole and Orange counties. Students who have earned their tickets for the game by reading a book in March and April can redeem their vouchers at Disney's Wide World of Sports box office prior to the game.

· Tomorrow night's on-field entertainment will include the world-famous and minor-league baseball favorite Monkey Boy.

· Major league closer John Rocker continues his trek back to the big leagues and will again be in uniform tomorrow night. Rocker is expected to make a relief appearance in Saturday's game.
