
Jax overpowered by Bandits 16-6

The Jax fell to the Bandits tonight at the HSBC Arena by a ten point differential, 16-6. The Bandits brought a strong offensive game and John Tavares was named game MVP with two goals, seven assists, and four loose balls. LumberJax goaltender, Dallas Eliuk made 40 saves for the night with 56 shots on goal. Ted Dowling also had a big night scoring three of the Jax six goals (four loose balls). The Bandits fourth quarter scoring run ended Portland's chances to recover.
The Bandits took a quick 2-0 lead in the first quarter with Kim Squire and Lindsay Plunkett of the Bandits leading off. With a minute left in the first quarter, Dowling scored ending the first quarter 2-1. The second quarter brought two more unanswered goals by the Bandits from Squire and Mark Steenhuis. Peter Morgan scored with an assist from Brodie Merrill keeping the score close at 4-2. With three more Bandits goals in the second by Delby Powless, Cory Bomberry and Steenhuis the Bandits expanded their lead to 7-2. At the end of the second quarter, Jax player Del Halladay scored (assist Hominuck and Montour) to make it 7-3 at the half.
The Jax went scoreless in the third quarter, but Dallas Eliuk only gave up three goals to Bandits Bomberry, Jon Haraysm, and Lindsay Plunkett. Brodie Merrill started the fourth quarter with a goal coming out of the face-off. Ted Dowling scored twice and was the only other player on the board for the Jax in the fourth. Buffalo's Tavares scored twice in the fourth, Plunkett, Pat McCready, Powless, and AJ Shannon also added goals.
The Jax play their next game on the road against Philadelphia on Saturday, February 18 at 5p (PST) and can be seen live on CNW TV14. The game will also be broadcast live via B2 networks for $6.00. The Portland LumberJax (www.PortlandJax.com) were founded on May 11, 2005 as an expansion franchise in the National Lacrosse League, which features the best lacrosse players in the world.
