Portland Lumberjax News Release

PORTLAND, Oct. 26, 2006 - Portland has re-signed Bruce Alexander and Damien Davis to one year contracts for the 2007 season. Alexander and Davis join the Jax as part of the extensive list of over 15 signees for the upcoming second season campaign.

Alexander enters his eighth season in the NLL after a successful year with the LumberJax. The Victoria, BC native led the team in assists (33) and placed fourth on the squad in points (45) in just 16 games with Portland. The defenseman's previous NLL experience includes playing with teams such as the Vancouver Ravens, the Montreal Express, the Calgary Roughnecks, the Ottawa Rebels and the Syracuse Smash. Alexander has collected 69 goals, 154 assists (223 points) and 85 looseballs throughout his NLL career.

"Bruce was Mr. Versatility for us last year," Head Coach and General Manager Derek Keenan explained. "We asked him to play defense, offense, power plays and penalty kills. He did all of it without ever questioning his role. Most importantly, Bruce brings great leadership onto the floor and in the locker room."

Davis collected 20 looseballs and tallied 17 penalty minutes throughout the 2006 season. The 6-foot-1-inch, 225-pound defenseman previously competed for the Anaheim Storm (2004-2005) where he collected 89 looseballs and a total of six assists. The Baltimore, Md. native played field lacrosse at Princeton University, becoming one of only six African-Americans to be named first-team All-American in 2003. Davis also garnered two second-team All-American accolades in 2001 and 2002 and helped lead the Tigers to the 2001 National Championship, defeating Syracuse University 10-9 in overtime.

"Damien is an outstanding athlete and was an integral part of our success last year," Keenan explained. "We expect he'll be one of the anchors on our defense this year."

The signees will travel to their Vancouver, B.C. training camps in November and December for an opportunity to join the 2007 Jax roster. Others who would like a shot at becoming a player for the Portland LumberJax can register by the end of the day on Oct. 31 for the open tryouts which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006.
