Arizona Sting News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Thursday the signing of defenseman and 2006 first-round draft selection Mike Grimes to one-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"Mike is one of the top defensive prospects in the league and we're very pleased to be signing him," said Hamley. "He brings a lot to the table in terms of size and skill and we're looking forward to getting him on the floor at training camp."
Grimes, 20, was Arizona's top selection at last month's NLL Entry Draft (first round, sixth overall). The 6'3", 210 lb. defenseman won a Minto Cup (Canadian Championship) with the Peterborough Junior Lakers this past summer, anchoring an impressive defensive core that allowed fewer than nine goals-per-game throughout the season. Grimes contributed1G-3A-4P in the Lakers' 9-5 Championship Game win over the Six Nations Arrows Express and finished the season with 10G-25A-35P in 39 games.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Their home games are played at the Glendale Arena and their season runs annually from January-April. For more information, please visit www.ArizonaSting.com.
