OTTAWA – The Canadian Football League today announced the Division nominees for the Rogers CFL Player Awards and rookie Renegades receiver Jason Armstead is the East selection as the most outstanding special teams player.

Armstead, who had an outstanding professional season in his first year as a pro, is up against Winnipeg's Keith Stokes for the John Agro award. The overall winners will be announced on Thursday, November 18, 2004 during the Rogers CFL Player Awards Ceremony in Ottawa during Grey Cup week.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound native of Moss Point, Mississippi was a solid addition to the Ottawa club in 2004. The 25-year-old was the team's third leading receiver, hauling in 41 balls for 608 yards and four touchdowns. He was also the team leader in all-purpose yards (2,306), third in yards from scrimmage (625) and tops in kickoff return yards (700), punt return yardage (821) and missed field goal return yards (four for 160).

In the return categories, Armstead ranked third in punt returns and sixth in kickoff returns.

"This is a recognition that's well deserved for him," said Renegades head coach Joe Paopao. "Jason plays with enthusiasm and passion and it was good to see him develop over the year."

The former star at Ole Miss continued to improve as the year went on. After a quiet start, Armstead's electrifying catches and returns led to a four-game streak of consecutive touchdowns. On October 9, at home against Saskatchewan, he had 317 all-purpose yards.

These finalists were selected by 45 voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) plus 10 broadcast media. For this ballot voters were asked to select players from their local Division whom they believed to be most deserving of each of the six awards (Outstanding Player, Outstanding Canadian, ADT Outstanding Defensive Player, Outstanding Lineman, Outstanding Rookie, and Outstanding Special Teams Player (John Agro).
