Keystone Ice Miners News Release

BLAINE, MN - Brendan Jaquay scored in regulation and the shootout while Alex Blankenburg stopped all five opposing shooters in the Ice Miners 4-3 victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays on Saturday during the final day of the NAHL Showcase.

For the first time in the showcase, the Ice Miners opened the scoring when Matt Jones netted his third goal in two games, making a nifty move on a 2-on-1 break and beating Corpus goaltender Andrew Lindgren with a wrist shot. Leading 1-0 after the first period, the Ice Miners extended their lead early in the 2nd when Jon Hall put home a shorthanded goal, taking a feed from Vito Aluia. The Ice Rays answered back as Connor Bucsis deflected a powerplay goal behind Blankenburg and then Tanner Lomsness converted on a breakaway and tied the game at two.

Heading into the third period with a 2-2 score, Brendan Jaquay put Keystone back ahead when he fired a wrister past Lindgren at 3:45. The IceRays again rallied to tie the game when Wes Michaud added Corpus Christi's second powerplay goal of the game at the 10:20 mark. Neither team scored again in the third or through sudden death overtime.

In the shootout, Brendan Jaquay, the Ice Miners second shooter, was the only one to find the back of the net. Aluia, Jones, and Jacob Coleman were stopped by Lindgren. Blankenburg stopped all five IceRays shooters, including Connor Kelly to clinch the win. Keystone improves to 2-2-1 on the season with the victory.

The Ice Miners begin a three game road trip at Soo and Michigan starting next Friday. Game times are as follows: Friday, 9/26 at Soo (7:30 PM), Saturday, 9/27 at Soo (7:00 PM), Sunday, 9/28 at Michigan (4:00 PM). Keystone returns home for opening weekend on October 4th and 5th against the same Michigan Warrors.
