Oshawa FireWolves News Release
Albany, NY - Despite some recent struggles, the Albany FireWolves (10-5) have had some incredible individual performances that are leading them toward a playoff berth. Goalie Doug Jamieson made 46 saves in the loss to the Calgary Roughnecks and several players on offense are having career best years.
Let's look at the key numbers from their game this past weekend against Calgary.
45+ Saves By Doug Jamieson In Six Games This Season
FireWolves starting goalie Doug Jamieson made 46 saves against Calgary, which is the sixth game this season that he has made 45 or more saves. With Jamieson making so many crucial stops and keeping the other team right around 10 goals scored, he is giving the FireWolves a great chance to win every time he steps in the net. Especially in the second half of the season he has been so good on breakaways and making the big stops in the big moments. If he can continue his pace and help bring the FireWolves a few more wins before the playoffs, Jamieson will be in the running for NLL Goalie of the Year.
100 Career Points For Marshall Powless
With 2 assists this past weekend against Calgary, Marshall Powless reached 100 career points (29 goals, 71 assists) in only 38 games. Marshall Powless is in his third NLL season and is on track to have the best season of his career so far as he has 41 points (12 goals, 29 assists) with three more regular season games to go. He is a slick lefty forward who has brough such a creative and calming presence to the FireWolves offense. As this young offensive group has learned to play together, Powless has become a leader with his great passing, picks, loose balls, and his knack for scoring and setting up crafty goals. He will be a huge part of Albany's success for the rest of the regular season as his playmaking always helps boost the energy of the offense.
51 Assists On The Season By Alex Simmons
Alex Simmons continues to climb up the charts in rookie scoring history as he reached a unique mark this past weekend. He may be known for his goal scoring, but with his 50th assist he became only the 11th rookie in NLL history to have 50 assists in a season. Simmons has shown that he is a great passer from the start of the season, but it wasn't until teams started to have more film on him that he started to distribute the ball even more. With defenses sending doubles or swarming all over him he has been able to find the open man on offense and share the ball for some crucial goals. Simmons will keep climbing the rookie record book every time he touches the ball.
The FireWolves have a bye week this weekend, but will return to action on Saturday, April 6 at 7pm at MVP Arena for Retro Night against the Toronto Rock.
