LONG BEACH, Calif. (Nov. 28, 2004) â The second quarter was the difference. After dueling to a 31-31 tie at the end of the first, the Long Beach Jam (2-1) of the American Basketball Association (ABA) outscored the Los Angeles Stars (2-1) by 19 points in the second stanza and never came close to trailing again in a 128-109 rout. Felipe Lopez scored 12 of his 19 points in the instrumental quarter.
The Jam's Maurice Spillers led all scorers with 27 points. Lenny Cooke added 19 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Percy Miller, A.K.A. Master P, tallied 10 points for Long Beach. For the Stars, Darwin Carter punched in 20 points and former NBA All-Star Cedric Ceballos scored 17 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and had four steals.
All season long, celebrities and members of the media can suit up with the Jam for a game. Today, freelance writer Dog Davis logged nearly two minutes of game time, going 0-4 from the field and committing one foul.
The Jam play the Tijuana Diablos on Saturday, Dec. 4, south of the border before returning home to face the Las Vegas Rattlers, Sunday Dec. 5 at 2 p.m.
