Jacksonville Bluewaves Splash Down In Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., May 4, 2010 - Today, the Jacksonville Bluewaves, Jacksonville's newest sports franchise, held a press conference to announce its presence in the city and the start of its 2010 inaugural season. The announcement was made during a press conference held in the Edwards Waters College gymnasium where the team will host all of its home games.

"This is an exciting day for the Bluewaves, but we know this is just the beginning," said Kevin Waters, general manager and owner of the Bluewaves. "With Jacksonville being traditionally known as a football town, we know we have to work to build our fan base, but we are up to the challenge. When you look at the NBA exhibitions and NCAA tournament basketball games that have supported by fans here, it shows that there are true basketball fans in this city. We hope that those same fans will come out to support their newest hometown team."

At the press event, the Bluewaves highlighted the team's schedule, which features a home opener against the Marietta Storm at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 15. The following home game will take place Friday, May 21 at 7 p.m.

Single game tickets are on sale now at $5 for children, $7.50 for military and students and $10 for adults through www.ticketleap.com. Season tickets are also available.

Team management also officially announced the names of the Bluewaves basketball team, which has been comprised of notable local and other players.

"We took a long look at the players selected for the team. We weren't just looking at skill level, we were also looking at character," says Tony Pullins, director of personnel for the team. "I believe we found what we were looking for: guys that we can work to develop them as players and people as they work to get to the next level of their careers. They will definitely provide a high level entertainment for the fans."

The Jacksonville Bluewaves organization is a part of the WBA (World Basketball Association), whose goal is to develop basketball players for and expose them to the NBA, NBDL, CBA and international scouts. In line with the goals of the WBA, the Bluewaves organization also serves as a training ground to develop professional players, coaches and personnel on and off the court. It places an emphasis on fundamental and career development, community involvement and education.
