October 17, 2018 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilmington Sharks News Release
The Wilmington Sharks are excited to announce the return of Head Coach, Tyler Jackson. The College of Charleston alum makes his return to the Shark Tank for his second summer as the Sharks manager. Jackson is currently in his fifth year as the hitting coach for North Greenville University.
Under Jackson's guidance, the North Greenville Crusaders saw their team batting average rise from .236 to a .306 average in the last four seasons.
The Bishopville, South Carolina native attended Spartanburg Methodist in 2011, before transferring to the College of Charleston. Jackson is also an alum of the Coastal Plain League, having played for the Columbia (now Lexington County) Blowfish in the summer of 2011. In his lone season in the CPL, Jackson hit .274 with 7 home runs and 31 runs batted in over 51 starts.
Jackson looks to improve in his second season as the Sharks Head Coach after guiding the Sharks to a 17-34 record in his first season. "Now that I have a season under my belt I understand better on how to prepare for next summer to get the Sharks back in the playoffs and competing for the Petitt Cup", says Jackson. Wilmington looks to get back to the Petitt Cup Playoffs having made the playoff in three of the past four seasons. After starting the season with a win over eventual champion Morehead City, the Sharks staggered a bit finishing the first half with a record of 7-18. The Sharks then turned things around in the second half, remaining in playoff contention until the final week of the season. They finished a mere 5.5 games out of first place for the second half.
Sharks fans can expect to see a team that is ready to compete day in and day out next summer. When asked about what fans can expect to see next summer, Jackson said, "So far the roster is full of talented players who will be ready to show up and compete every day for the best fans in the CPL. I am very excited for May 30th to get here and looking forward to a great summer".
