TODAY'S GAME: The Generals face the Birmingham Barons today in game 3 of a 5-game series at Regions Park. Jackson faces All-Star lefty Charlie Leesman for the 3rd time this season. Leesman is 0-0, with a 3.12 ERA against the Generals with 8 SO and 6 BB. With the win yesterday, Jacks is now 12-20 against southpaws and have a .248 batting average. The Generals lead the season series, 7-4.

JACKSON GENERALS RECAP: - James Paxton struck out 10 batters on Saturday night and helped Jackson to a 2-0 win over the Barons at Regions Park. Paxton held the Barons scoreless on just three hits over 6 2/3 innings to earn his second victory of the season. Saturday was the fifth double-digit strikeout performance of the season for Paxton between Clinton and Jackson. The win evened the series at 1-1. Rich Poythress and Brandon Bantz were each 2-for-4 as the Generals had only eight hits, but it was plenty. Vinnie Catricala delivered the first Jackson home run during the month of August and he finished the night 1-for-2 with the homer and a walk. Brian Moran and Edward Parades provided scoreless relief behind Paxton and Paredes earned his first save. He walked two in the bottom of the ninth, but held for the save. Hector Santiago (4-4) suffered the tough luck loss for Birmingham, only allowing one run on five hits in five innings.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE: Carlos Triunfel has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games, batting .375 (18x48) with 5 runs, 1 double, 1 home run and 6 RBI. Vinnie Catricala has recorded multi-hits in 9 of his last 15 games, batting .417 (25x60) with 9 runs, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 7 RBI. Scott Savastano has recorded multi-hits in 8 of his last 16 games, batting .352 (25x71) with 6 runs, 8 doubles, 1 home run, and 9 RBI.

TODAY'S STARTER: LHP Jimmy Gillheeney makes his 2nd Jackson start today against Birmingham. In his first Generals start this season, Gillheeney went just 3.0 innings and allowed 5 runs on eight hits, walking 3. Gillheeney was added to the Generals roster from A+ High Desert on 8/1 and was 6-5, with a 5.35 ERA for the Mavericks in 20 starts.

ALUMNI REPORT: Former Diamond Jaxx pitcher Blake Beavan tossed 8.0 innings of 1-run ball in his win last night over the Angels and became the first pitcher in club history to open a Major League career with 6 consecutive quality starts. Former Jaxx starter Michael Pineda had 5 earlier this season, and Bob Stoddard held the previous record with 3 consecutive quality starts in 1981

CHIANG NAMED EASTERN LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE MONTH...AGAIN: Chih-Hsien Chiang was acquired by Seattle at the trading deadline from Boston on July 31st, and for second consecutive month playing for AA Portland, he was named the Eastern League Player of the Month as he also won the award in the month of June. In 26 games during the month of July Chih-Hsien batted .430 (43-for-100) with 16 doubles, five home runs, 27 runs scored, 25 RBI, seven walks, three stolen bases and a .740 slugging percentage.

TODAY IN BASEBALL HISTORY: 1893 - Facing a left-handed Brooklyn pitcher, New York first baseman Roger Connor bats right-handed for the first time in his career and slugs out two homers and a single in a 10-3 win. 1956 - The largest crowd in minor league history, 57,000, saw 51-year-old Satchel Paige of Miami beat Columbus in an International League game played in the Orange Bowl.
