Loman Overpowers Generals, 5-2

Hoover, AL - Seth Loman smashed a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Birmingham Barons (17-26, 57-56) overpowered the Jackson Generals (18-25, 56-57), 5-2, in front of 1,921 fans Sunday night at Regions Park.

Birmingham secured a first inning lead when Brandon Short slapped a leadoff single, dashed to second base on a Ross Wilson groundout and raced home on a Jose Martinez double down the left-field line. Christian Marrero lined a RBI single to left field that drove in Martinez, 2-0.

Jackson cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth inning when Jesus Sucre reached on a fielder's choice, sprinted to third base on a Scott Savastano double and darted home on a Carlos Triunfel groundout, 2-1.

The Generals knotted the game 2-2 in the sixth inning when Luis Jiminez lashed a singled to left field and lumbered to third base on a Rich Poythress broken-bat single to center field. Johermyn Chavez plated Jiminez on a groundout to third base. Loman gave the Barons the 5-2 lead in the eighth inning when his three-run blast sailed over the right field wall. Martinez and Marrero had walked in front of Loman's blast.

Nathan Jones (2-3) earned the win after he hurled 2.0 scoreless innings with one hit and three strikeouts. Anthorny Carter (SV, 2) grabbed the save after he yielded one walk in 1.0 IP. Barons starter Charlie Leesman was handed a no-decision after he tossed 6.0 IP with two earned runs on 7 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.

Moises Hernandez (3-2) attained the loss after he surrendered three earned runs on 4 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts in 2.0 IP. James Gilheeney received a no-decision after he pitched 6.0 IP with 2 earned runs, 4 hits, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.

The Barons and Generals play game four of the five-game series with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Monday night at Regions Park. Birmingham sends right-handed pitcher Terry Doyle (3-4, 3.39) to the mound and Jackson counters with right-handed pitcher Steven Hensley (2-6, 5.59).
