Bangor Lumberjacks News Release

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks, a proud member of the Northeast League, announced today, that with the number one overall pick in the Central League Draft the Lumberjacks sign right hand pitcher Laine McKeller from McNeese State University.

The 6-1, 200 pitcher pitched his senior year in college in 2002. The hard throwing righty tallied 68 strikeouts while only giving up 42 free passes in 82 innings of work. McKeller has been throwing his fastball consistently in the mid 90's and has a solid slider to go along with it. Laine was one of McNeese State University's top pitchers in 2002 and was used primarily as a starter.

McKeller started his college career at Angelina Junior College where he posted an 8-2 record and had a 2.69 ERA. He will fight for a starting job with the Lumberjacks, but he can also be used out of the bullpen for long relief appearances as well.

The Lumberjacks begin the 2004 season on the road in New Jersey, and open at home on Thursday, June 3 at the new John Winkin Baseball Complex on the campus of Husson College in Bangor.
