Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.--- Nearing the eve of their annual training camp, the Muskegon Lumberjacks are getting set to begin the 50th Anniversary Season of pro hockey in Muskegon. With their training camp roster still in a fluid state of flux, the Lumberjacks have procured a late entry and it is one of some significant import, impact and magnitude.
On this date, Lumberjacks General Manager / Governor Tim Taylor, in collaboration with head coach Rich Kromm, has announced that right wing DAVID ROHLFS has assented to terms and signed a one-year contract with the Muskegon club for the franchise 50th Anniversary Season in 2009-10. Adhering to club policy, terms of the contract deal were not disclosed.
ROHLFS, 25, will be embarking on his third pro campaign and his first-ever in the International Hockey League and the Lumberjacks. The strong, strapping 6-3, 230lb forward arrives in the Muskegon Lakeshore community armed with some outstanding credentials born from not only his professional career but also from an exemplary collegiate career at one of the premiere university powers in the country.
When he takes the ice come Monday morning for the start of Muskegon's training camp sessions, it will represent his second such camp thus far this fall as the Northville, MI product recently completed a tour of duty in the AHL with the Lake Erie Monsters. A former fifth round choice of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Rohlfs played his initial two pro seasons with Edmonton's ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder. In the 2008-09 campaign with the latter club, he performed with ability and versatility at both right wing and defense. In 55-games, he compiled 12-points on 7-goals, 5-assists while collecting 31-PIM. Playing in the 2009 Kelly Cup Playoffs, in 12-games, he registered 5-more points on 2-goals, 3-assists and 6-PIM.
Coach Kromm expressed elation with the late acquisition to his roster. "David comes from an excellent college program, having captained the U. of Michigan Wolverines in his senior season when he averaged nearly a point a game. He is a big, strong, fast, powerful forward who will also give us some outstanding versatility especially since he is capable of playing both forward and defense. We think that he will make a major contribution to the overall success of our club this season."
Rohlfs' best pro season, thus far, occurred in his rookie year of 2007-08, also with Stockton, sparkling to the tune of 32-points in 65-games on 16-goals, 16-assists with 41-PIM.
