October 4, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (October 4, 2009) - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, today announced that they have acquired defenseman Jay Holladay from the Flint Generals in exchange for cash considerations and have signed right wings Terry Harrison and Patrick Levesque, defensemen Joe Dolan and Joe Pace and goaltender Jon Smarsh to training camp agreements. Per Mallards team policy no contract terms were released.
Holladay, 24, finished last season with the Generals after spending the bulk of the year with the Fort Wayne Komets. The Virginia Beach, Virginia, native totaled four goals and 18 points in 65 games.
Holladay, now entering his third professional season, skated for the Central Hockey League's New Mexico Scorpions as a rookie. The 6' 0", 200-pound blue liner scored one goal and picked up five points in 58 CHL games in 2007-08.
"The need for experienced defensemen is very important, especially in season number one, so Jay's experience as a two year pro may be invaluable," said Mallards Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Frank Anzalone. "His pro career so far has shown that he's capable of being a stable defenseman for our team."
Holladay played at American International College for one season- 2006-07- before turning pro.
Harrison, 31, returns to North America for his seventh pro season after playing in Europe each of the last two years and in three of last four campaigns. The Winnipeg product scored seven times and collected 18 points in 14 games with HC Neuilly-sur-Marne in France last year. In 2007-08 Harrison produced 16 goals and 37 points in 31 games while skating in Italy for Fassa HC.
The 6' 0", 190-pound Harrison last played on this side of the Atlantic in 2006-07 when he scored 8 goals and notched 25 points in 60 games with the ECHL's Long Beach Ice Dogs. He first played in Europe in 2005-06 when he suited up for both KalPa Kuopio in Finland and Odense IK in Denmark.
Harrison played for three teams in three different leagues in his first two pro seasons. He broke in with the ECHL's Columbia Inferno in 2003-04. The following season he set career highs in goals (21), assists (25) and points (46) in 73 games with the United Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs while also playing nine games in the American Hockey League with the Milwaukee Admirals.
As a collegian Harrison scored 41 goals and recorded 86 points in 114 career games at Northern Michigan while helping the Wildcats to four straight winning seasons.
Levesque, 25, scored nine goals and registered 24 points in 21 games while playing in his hometown for the Trois Rivieres Caron and Guay of the Quebec-based North American Hockey League last year. The 6' 2", 200-pound Levesque has played for 12 teams in five leagues in six seasons as a pro. Before returning home last year he suited up for the Corpus Christi Rayz, Jacksonville Barracudas, Amarillo Gorillas, Bakersfield Condors, San Diego Gulls, Phoenix Roadrunners, Fayetteville FireAntz, Augusta Lynx, Lubbock Cotton Kings, Arizona Sundogs and Johnstown Chiefs over his first five campaigns.
Levesque played three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior League- for Sherbrooke and Drummondville- before beginning his pro odyssey.
Dolan, 23, notched a goal and an assist while suiting up in six games for Division III national champion Neumann College last season. The 6' 3", 190-pound native of Mickleton, New Jersey also played one game as a junior in 2007-08.
Pace, 24, returns to the Quad Cities after playing 14 games for the Mallards in the UHL in 2005-06. The Chicago native saw action with three teams in three leagues last season. Pace played 19 games in the IHL with Flint, played four times for the All American Hockey League's Chicago Blaze and suited up once in the CHL for the Wichita Thunder. Since first skating in the pro ranks with the UHL's IceHogs in 2003-04, the 5' 11", 190-pound Pace has worn the colors of ten teams in seven leagues.
Smarsh, 20, last season played 31 games for the United Junior Hockey League's Philadelphia Thunder, posting a 5.56 goals against average, a .880 save percentage and one shutout. The Gewela, Illinois, native was named UJHL Goaltender of the Year and also spent five games with the ECHL's Elmira Jackals without seeing any action.
The 6' 1", 180-pound Smarsh enjoyed a standout career at Geneva (Illinois) High School, winning the 2007-08 Illinois state title and then earning 2008-09 Illinois High School Goaltender of the Year honors.
