Odessa Jackalopes News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - In a tumultuous game that featured four fights and 85 combined penalty minutes, the Odessa Jackalopes dropped a Friday clash on the Texas Gulf Coast by a 4-2 final score to the Corpus Christi IceRays at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi. With the loss, the Jacks fell to 6-36-3 overall this season and with 15 points, remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL's South Division standings.

In their last game until February 22nd, the Jackalopes fell into an early hole, as Corpus Christi's Brandon Berkley poked home a Nick Monfiles centering feed less than three minutes into the game to give the IceRays a 1-0 lead. Matt Volonnino evened the score at 13:53 on his ninth tally of the season following a blocked Steve Inman point shot and then in the second, Jimmy Peplinski gave the Jacks their only edge of the night at 4:52 when he won a faceoff to himself and popped his tenth point of the season past Corpus netminder Ben Myers' outstretched glove hand.

After a Charles Baldwin equalizer at 11:18, Corpus Christi took over in the third, scoring back-to-back unanswered goals, from Brandon Smith at 4:23 and Eric Purcell at 16:01 respectively, to deliver the Jacks their sixth consecutive loss and secure the two-game series sweep.

Odessa's penalty kill hit a high-water mark Friday, going a season-long best nine for nine in the game, while Jacks goaltender Erick Majerle stopped a single-game season-high 41 shots in the loss in arguably his best showing of the year.

Next up for the Jacks, it's a two-week break, leading into a two-game weekend set in Wichita Falls March 22nd and 23rd.

In 2012-13, the Odessa Jackalopes drop the puck on their second season as a member of the North American Hockey League.
