Odessa Jackalopes News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The Odessa Jackalopes (11-12-1) fell on Friday night to the Corpus Christi IceRays (11-11-1) 8-2 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi.
The Jacks fell behind 1-0 in the first period and then 2-0 early on in the second. Odessa got one back on the power play as Rex Moe tipped in a point shot to put the Jacks on the board at 2-1.
But then on an ensuing power play for the IceRays they scored to make it 3-1 and then the flood gates opened. The Jackalopes surrendered two more goals to finish up the second to fall behind 5-1.
The Third period, though better for the Jacks, was still dominated by the Rays netting three goals in the third period to give them eight goals.
The Jackalopes had a bright spot in the third as Everett Wardle scored his first goal of his North American Hockey League career. His first goal and point, at the time, made it 7-2 before the Rays would add another to get to the final score of 8-2.
With the loss, the Jacks and IceRays are now tied for 5th place in the NAHL South with 23 points. The Ice Rays hold the tie breaker as they have less losses then Odessa.
The Jackalopes and IceRays will conclude their weekend series tomorrow night at 7:05 pm.
