Jacks Even Series Behind Toivonen's Brilliance

Odessa Jackalopes News Release


Odessa, TX) - With less than five minutes remaining in regulation Odessa goalie, Juha Toivonen, turned away Tyler Skworchinski on a breakaway and robbed Justin Kinnunen on a two-on-one to spark the Jackalopes to a 2-0 win over the Texas Brahmas on Thursday night at the Ector County Coliseum. Odessa has evened the Southern Conference Finals series to 2-2.

The Jackalopes shut out the Brahmas just 48 hours after being shut out themselves in game three. Paul Kelly scored the game winner 2:46 into the third period on assists from Jeff Pierce and Dave Van Drunen. Brian Swiniarski added an empty net goal for the Jackalopes from Jean Bourbeau with :31 left in the game.

Brahmas' goaltender, Brett Jaeger, continued his stellar play in net stopping 32 of 33 Odessa shots. In the last three games Jaeger has stopped 107 of 109 shots for a 98.1 save percentage. He was named the third star of the game.

Kelly was named the second star and Toivonen received first star honors as he now improved to 6-0 this postseason with a 1.85 GAA and a .922 SV%.

Odessa out shot Texas 33-18 in the game.

The series returns to the NYTEX Sports Centre on Saturday for game five of the Conference Finals. Game time is 7:05 PM. You can hear the action on 97 Gold and watch the game online on the CHL Network.
